Solaris

Solaris is a very early cider variety. It belongs to interspecific varieties, it was bred in Freiburg, Germany in 1975 by prof. by N. Becker. It is a cross between the varieties Merzling and Gm 6493. The paternal variety comes from seedlings bred in 1964 by Prof. Vilém Kraus still in the former Czechoslovakia by crossing Severnyi x Muskát Ottonel varieties. Prof. Kraus offered seedlings to Prof. Dr. Helmut Becker (1927-1990), then active in Geisenheim, for further use, he recognized the quality of the material and bred a hybrid marked Gm 6493 through selection. The Solaris variety is mostly grown in Germany.

Solaris gives a pleasant, fresh, fruity wine. The aroma and taste are dominated by citrus fruits.
